Not only is it so very easy, but it is scrumptious in taste!
You can prepare the mixture the night before, refrigerate it, and then make the French Toast the next day.
Peaches, (I use canned peaches), work as the perfect companion for French Toast! In my opinion this is the fruit that pairs best with peaches!
Helpful Tip for Making French Toast
~ The type of bread you use for this recipe is your choice - rye bread, white bread, whole wheat bread, or another favourite bread.
Allow the bread to "dry" for several hours, unwrapped, on a plate on your counter.
Fresh bread does not work well for French Toast because when it is dipped into the milk mixture, it will absorb too much liquid and therefore become "soggy".
Ingredients
12 slices bread
4 eggs
2 cups milk
2 tsp. granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
shortening (for frying)
Directions
In a large bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, sugar and cinnamon and continue to beat until well combined.
Heat the skillet, and add about 1/2 tsp. shortening.
Gently dip the bread slices into the milk mixture, allowing excess liquid to drip off.
Immediately add the bread to the heated skillet baking the bread in hot shortening until a delicate brown on both sides (turning once).
Serve with your choice of maple syrup, butter, raspberry sauce or syrup, or any other fruit syrup or topping.
Serves 4 - 6.
