You can grill peaches alone, or in combination with other fruits, or include cake on the grill, for a very special summer dessert treat.

Surprise your family and friends with tasty, healthy fruit prepared on the barbeque.

Take advantage of grilling with peaches when they are "in season" in the area where you live.

Peaches that have been allowed to ripen on the tree are the best tasting peaches, and will provide the best texture for grilling the fruit. Ensure the peaches are ripe, but not over ripe and mushy.

In addition to snacks and desserts, grill peaches with meat for dinner to a mouth-watering summertime meal.

How to Grill Peaches

Grilling PeachesGrilled Peaches make a Healthy Dessert Idea

Preheat or prepare the grill for medium heat.

Clean and oil the grates.

Cut the peaches in half, and remove the pit.

Grill peach in halves or slices large enough that they will not fall through the grates.

Brush fruit with oil (canola oil works well), and grill, cut sides down, until grill marks appear.

Turn, and continue grilling peaches until the fruit is softened.

Total grilling time is about 6 - 8 minutes.

Grilled Peaches on Pound Cake for Dessert

Options:

  • Fill the centers of the peaches with brown sugar, and grill until the sugar melts and the peaches are tender Remove the peaches, using a spatula. Peel the peaches and discard the skins. Chop the peaches, and serve them with biscuits, (or pound cake or angel cake), and whipped cream.
  • Melt 1/2 cup apricot preserves mixed with about 2 tbsp. of canola oil, stirring until smooth. Brush over the peach halves and grill as above. For a special treat, add feta cheese to the centres of the peaches and heat until the cheese is warm, or serve with a dollop of Greek-style yogurt.

Note - Obviously the best choice of peach variety would be a peach that is "free stone", meaning that the pit is easily separated from the flesh of the peach fruit.

"Red Haven" is a variety of peaches that is my favourite.

It is a "free stone" variety that has a pit that easily separates from the peach flesh.
